Investigating Tangerang Prison Fire, 5 Inmates In Block C2 Are Examined

JAKARTA - Polda Metro Jaya has re-scheduled the examination of six witnesses in the investigation of the Tangerang Class I prison fire case. Five of them are inmates.

"So we have summoned 6 people for examination, one additional questioning. Then we have 5 more witnesses called for questioning today," said the Head of Public Relations of the Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Yusri Yunus to reporters, Wednesday, September 22.

The five inmates who were examined were residents of block C2 or the fire point. Their information is considered by the police to shed light on the cause of the fire.

As for the other witness, Yusri did not explain in detail. He only stated that this witness had been examined before.

"There is a summons for an additional BAP for the witness initials JMN to be recalled," he said.

Then, investigators are also gathering information from experts. This information is important because it becomes one of the bases for investigating the allegations of Articles 187 and 188 of the Criminal Code regarding deliberate intent.

"Then we are also coordinating with criminal experts or expert examinations. While we are collecting evidence because I have said that there are 3 suspects who have been determined regarding 359 of his negligence," said Yusri.

Previously, the police had named three suspects behind the deadly fire at the Class I Tangerang prison. The suspects are prison employees.

The three suspects had the initials RU, S, and Y. The determination of these suspects was based on the results of a case title with dozens of witnesses and evidence. In that case, they were proven to have violated Article 359 of the Criminal Code regarding negligence causing death.

The Tangerang Class I prison caught fire on Wednesday, September 8, in the early hours of the morning. As a result, dozens of inmates died because of the incident.

Dozens of inmates could not save themselves. Because when the fire broke out, the prison cell was locked. Meanwhile, officers did not have time to open the cells of the victims.
