1,053 Market Traders Throughout Indonesia Are Positive COVID-19, Jakarta Province Most

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Market Traders Association (Ikappi) noted that as many as 1,053 market traders were infected with COVID-19 as of Tuesday, July 14.

Head of the Information and Communication Division of the DPP IKAPPI Reynaldi Sarijowan said traders infected with the corona virus were spread across 190 markets in 80 districts / cities and 26 provinces throughout Indonesia.

Of the total positive traders of COVID-19, 35 people died.

"DKI Jakarta is still the province with the highest number of traders affected," Reynaldi told reporters, Tuesday, July 14.

Especially in DKI Jakarta, 273 people infected with COVID-19. They are spread across 45 markets, with the largest number in Central Jakarta and West Jakarta.

Meanwhile, the province with the most cases was East Java. Then, there are provinces that have just been recorded as having quite high positive cases, namely Papua.

Reynaldi continued, the high number of COVID-19 cases in traditional markets was due to increased active case finding by local governments. Ikappi also noted that the increase in cases was quite high in the past week.

"The additions are in areas where the regional government is massive in conducting rapid tests and swabs in traditional markets," said Reynaldi.

Based on this data, Reynaldi asked all parties, especially local governments and managers to be more active in educating about the dangers of COVID-19. In addition, it is necessary to strengthen coordination in implementing health protocols in traditional markets.

"Information that we continue to receive, public distrust of the dangers of COVID-19 is a major factor in increasing Covid 19 in the market. Ikappi Urges that strengthening of health protocols in the market and education are the main things to do," he said.

"The second thing is to encourage the involvement of traders in the policy process taken or health protocols carried out in the market," he continued.
