JAKARTA - A total of 17 security guards for the Permata Buana housing complex, Jalan Pulau Pantara, Kembangan, West Jakarta were secured by members of the West Jakarta Metro Police Criminal Investigation Unit. They were arrested for allegedly extorting and intimidating residents in the neighborhood.

Based on the video description circulating on social media, the commotion began when security guards blocked one of the cars carrying goods belonging to the residents of the housing estate. Then the security guards stopped and asked the driver for money.

The alleged extortion action was then reported to the Kembangan Police and the West Jakarta Metro Police. The perpetrators of the alleged extortion were also detained by the police to the West Jakarta Police Headquarters.

When confirmed, the Head of Criminal Investigation Unit of the Kembangan Police, AKP Ferdo Alvianto, confirmed the incident. However, the handling of the case is at the West Jakarta Metro Police.

"It's handled by the West Jakarta Police, not us (Kembangan Police). The handling is at the West Java Police. Because it's crowded, we direct it to the Resort Police," he said when contacted by VOI, Tuesday, September 21.
