Bobby Nasution Revitalizing Medan Merdeka Square To Become A Cultural Heritage, North Sumatra DPRD Full Support Requests Proposals To Be Submitted

MEDAN - Pemko Medan will revitalize Merdeka Square to become a cultural heritage site and green open space (RTH).

This plan will be followed by the creation of an underground parking pocket that will connect the Merdeka Square, Kesawan, the train station and the Grand Aston City Walk Hotel.

Meanwhile, the tenants who have been at Merdeka Walk will be moved to the Kesawan Old Town area. This step was taken by the Mayor of Medan Bobby Nasution in order to organize the city of Medan for the better.

The plan for the revitalization of Merdeka Square was conveyed by Bobby Nasution while leading the Presentation on Design for the Revitalization of Merdeka Square at City Hall, Tuesday, September 14. Accompanied by the Deputy Mayor of Medan Aulia Rachman, Bobby Nasution said the use of Merdeka Square as a cultural heritage and green open space was included in the aspects needed by the community.

"So Merdeka Square will not only make green space to accommodate all community activities in it, but also for underground parking. Moreover, parking issues have been a problem around the Kesawan area and Merdeka Square," said Bobby Nasution, quoted from a statement from the Medan City Government Kominfo Service.

To overcome this, the Medan City Government wants to design an underground parking that will connect Merdeka Square with the Kesawan Old Town area, the train station and the Grand City Walk Hotel.

"This will be a harmonious unit in its construction," continued Bobby Nasution.

In order to make this happen, Bobby Nasution asked the North Sumatran DPRD members who were present, namely Akbar Himawan Buchari and the North Sumatran Provincial Government to collaborate with the Medan City Government in revitalizing Merdeka Square into the green open space.

Because, according to Bobby Nasution, this is also in line with the wishes of the Governor of North Sumatra, Edy Rahmayadi, who wants to make Merdeka Square a green open space area.

"We ask for support from the North Sumatra DPRD and the North Sumatra Provincial Government to realize the revitalization plan. Hopefully next year we can do it," he hoped.

In addition, Bobby Nasution also revealed that the Deputy Mayor as the Head of the Old City Regional Agency has also communicated with the Merdeka Walk management to discuss the transfer of tenants in Merdeka Walk.

The plan, according to Bobby Nasution, the tenants will be reallocated to a predetermined place, namely the Kota Lama Kesawan area in order to create a vision and mission to make Medan City even better.

Bobby Nasution expressed his appreciation to the Director of Hartono Architecte Suhardi Hartanto who had designed the revitalization of Merdeka Square.

"We hope that this planned design can be realized soon," he hoped.

Meanwhile, North Sumatran DPRD member Akbar Himawan Buchari really appreciates the steps that the Mayor will take to revitalize Merdeka Square.

According to him, the North Sumatra DPRD is ready to collaborate with the Medan City Government to build the city of Medan. The North Sumatran DPRD currently, he said, was discussing the North Sumatran RAPBD for the 2022 Fiscal Year, there was provincial financial assistance to the regions.

Therefore, he asked the Medan City Government to immediately submit a proposal accompanied by a cover letter from Mayor Bobby Nasution so that provincial financial assistance to Medan could be allocated to support the revitalization of Merdeka Square.
