Update On COVID-19 As Of July 9: A Record Of 2,657 New Cases, West Java Is The Biggest Contributor

JAKARTA - Government spokesman for the handling of COVID-19 Achmad Yurianto (Yuri) explained that there were an additional 2,657 confirmed positive cases as of Thursday, July 9 at 12.00 WIB. The total number of positive cases became 70,736 people.

The number of new cases today is a record high. The province with the highest number of new cases today is West Java with 962 new cases. The total cases in West Java were 4,843 cases.

Yuri explained that the number of new cases in West Java today was obtained from the results of tests that came out of the cluster of candidates for army officers.

"This is obtained from the cluster that we have finished carrying out epidemiological investigations since last 29, namely the army officer candidate cluster who is undergoing training," said Yuri at Graha BNPB, East Jakarta, Thursday, July 9.

In detail, there were 1,262 positive cases consisting of students and several trainers. Of the 1262 who tested positive, only 17 were treated and isolated at the Dustira Cimahi hospital experiencing complaints, including fever and respiratory complaints.

"While the remaining 1,245 people without any complaints. We are currently quarantining all of them in the area of school for prospective Army officers in Bandung," Yuri explained.

Apart from West Java, another province with high new cases is in East Java with 517 cases and a total of 15,484 cases. Then, DKI Jakarta with 284 new cases and 13,448 total cases, South Sulawesi with 130 new cases and a total of 6,488 cases, and North Sulawesi with 126 new cases and a total of 2,085 cases.

Then, the number of patients who died today increased by 58 people, to become 3,417 patients. There were an additional 1,066 patients recovered, bringing the total to 32,651 patients.

If you look at the distribution of data on recovered cases, there are 10 provinces reporting recovery rates that are more than new cases. The highest recovered cases today were in South Sulawesi with 189 cases and 130 new cases.

Then, Bali has 53 new cases but 92 recovered, Papua has only 27 new cases, but 57 recovered cases, Banten has 11 new cases but 24 recovered, North Kalimantan has 8 new cases but 9 recovered, East Sumatra 6 new but 8 recovered cases.

Furthermore, Maluku has 8 new cases but 21 recovered, Riau Islands 3 new cases but 12 people recovered, Aceh 1 new case but 3 people recovered, and Bangka Belitung no new cases but 1 person recovered.

"This illustration shows that cases of recovery will continue to increase from time to time," said Yuri.

Of the 34 provinces that reported, 19 provinces reported new cases under 10. Of these provinces, 4 of them reported that today there were no additional new cases.

"Provinces that report no new cases are West Papua, Bengkulu, Jambi, West Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi, East Nusa Tenggara, and Gorontalo," he said.

Furthermore, the total number of specimens that had been examined was accumulatively as many as 992,069. In detail, 966,949 specimens were examined using real time polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) and 25,120 specimens were examined using a molecular rapid test (TCM).

This examination was carried out in 161 active RT-PCR laboratories, 115 TCM laboratories, and 291 network laboratories. The rate of positive cases was 12 percent of all examinations performed.

Then, the patient data under surveillance (PDP) which is currently still being monitored reached 13,732 people. Meanwhile, people under monitoring (ODP) who are currently still being monitored reach 38,498.
