Depok District Court Sentences To Death 3 Defendants In Drug Cases Who Are Still Young

DEPOK - The panel of judges at the Depok District Court sentenced three defendants to the narcotics case, Junaidi, Zulkarnain and Eko Saputra, with 267 kilograms of methamphetamine as evidence.

During the trial, the defendants admitted that they only received wages due to the current economic situation. However, the panel of judges could not accept that reason because the defendants still benefited from the drug business, therefore the defendants' requests were rejected by the panel of judges.

In his ruling, Chief Justice Andi Musafir said that the defendants admitted that their actions had violated the law with 267 kilograms of crystal methamphetamine as evidence.

"The trial, stated that defendant 1 Junaidi alias Edi (30 years), Defendant 2 Zulkarnain alias Ijul (25 years) and defendant 3 Eko Saputra alias Eko (25 years), had been proven guilty of violating the law as regulated and threatened with crime in Article 114 Paragraph (2) of the Republic of Indonesia Law Number 35 of 2009 concerning Narcotics," said Chief Justice Andi Musafir during the online verdict reading in the Depok District Court Court Room 2, Monday, September 13.

The Panel of Judges also stated that they agreed with the demands of the Public Prosecutor (JPU) which stated that the three defendants were proven legally and convincingly guilty, without rights or against the law offering for sale, selling, buying, receiving, intermediary in buying and selling, exchanging, or submit Narcotics Category I in the form of non-plants weighing more than 5 grams.

"Sentencing defendant 1 Junaidi alias Edi, defendant 2 Zulkarnain alias Ijul and defendant 3 Eko Saputra, each with the death penalty," said Andi Musafir.
