KPKP Officers Trace Dog Meat Suppliers To Pasar Senen Traders

JAKARTA - The polemic of selling dog meat in Block III, Pasar Senen, Central Jakarta continues to be disputed by various parties. Because, apart from being able to transmit rabies, dog meat is also not meat that can be bought and sold in government-owned markets.

In fact, in the Food Law and Consumer Protection Act, dog meat is not included in the category of food definition.

Head of the Central Jakarta KPKP Sub-dept., Penty Yunesi Pudyastuti, admitted that his party will trace the source (supplier) of the dog meat until it reaches the traders at the Senen market.

"We are still investigating the source (the dog meat seller). It is related to rabies. We urge you not to sell the meat, because it is feared that it will be unhealthy," he told reporters, Tuesday, September 14.

As a precautionary measure, he said he would immediately follow up on the information so it doesn't happen again.

"We only direct that according to the Food Law, it is not recommended to sell the meat. When the report arises, we immediately TL (follow up), we immediately coordinate and have been called by the merchant," he said.

Penty admitted that his party had directed traders not to repeat their actions by selling the meat at Pasar Senen.

"As far as I know, there is no (market anymore) except in Pasar Senen which only sells (dog meat). For pork in (market) Sawah Besar. Dog meat is only there (Market Senen)," he said.
