Police Visit Alcohol Industry On Bengawan Solo River To Investigate River Pollution

SEMARANG - Central Java Police visited a number of alcohol industries around the banks of the Bengawan Solo River in the Sukoharjo Regency. Police are investigating allegations of sewage pollution in the river.

The Head of Public Relations of the Central Java Police, Kombes Iqbal Alqudusy, said that the large companies and home industries that produce alcohol are spread across Mojolaban and Polokarto sub-districts.

The alcohol home industries are 45 businesses in Mojolaban District and 88 businesses in Polokarto District.

Investigators of the Special Criminal Investigation Directorate of the Central Java Police, he said, had also visited two large alcohol-producing companies.

The two companies had received sanctions from the Central Java Environment and Forestry Service for violations of waste management.

According to him, if evidence is found that the two companies have committed violations, they will be criminally charged.

"The pollution in Bengawan Solo is still under investigation, but it is suspected that there was an element of intent," he said, quoted by Antara, Monday, September 13.

Investigators, he said, have also pocketed a list from the environmental service about companies that have received sanctions for disposing of waste into Bengawan Solo.
