Former KPK Investigator Charged With Accepting IDR 11.5 Billion In Bribery

JAKARTA - Former investigator of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Stepanus Robin Pattuju was charged with accepting bribes of Rp. 11.5 billion in handling a number of cases. The bribe was given by several parties, one of them, Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Azis Syamsuddin.

"The defendant received a gift or promise in the form of money in the total amount of Rp. 11,025,077,000.00 and US$ 36,000 or at least that amount," said the prosecutor reading the indictment in the trial at the Corruption Court, Monday, September 13.

In the indictment, the parties who gave bribes to Stepanus Robin Pattuju included the Mayor of Tanjungbalai M. Syahrial in the amount of Rp. 1.69 billion.

Then, from Deputy Speakers of the House of Representatives Azis Syamsuddin and Aliza Gunado in the amount of Rp. 3.099 billion and 36 thousand United States (US) dollars, which is equivalent to Rp. 513 million.

Furthermore, Stepanus Robin Pattuju also received bribes from Ajay Muhammad Priatna of Rp507 million, Usman Effendi of Rp525 million, and Rita Widyasari worth Rp5.19 billion.

"The defendant and MASKUR HUSAIN assisted them in dealing with cases at the KPK, which contradicted their obligations, namely, they were contrary to the obligations of the accused as state administrators not to commit acts of corruption, collusion and nepotism," said the Prosecutor.

With the acceptance of the bribe, Stepanus Robin Pattuju was charged with Article 11 in conjunction with Article 18 of Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning the Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption as amended by Law Number 20 of 2001 concerning Amendments to Law Number 31 of 1999 concerning Eradication of Criminal Acts of Corruption in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph (1) 1 and Article 65 paragraph (1) of the Criminal Code.
