Unscrupulous Warden In Baubau Sultra Persecuted Prisoners, Kemenkumham Forms A Joint Investigation Team

SULTRA - Inmates in Class IIA Baubau Prison, Southeast Sulawesi (Sultra) are suspected of being mistreated by unscrupulous guards. The beating case was triggered when the inmates took cell phones from the block raids that were stored in the Correctional Security Unit (KPLP) room.

When asked for information, it was suspected that the inmates were reluctant to be honest and convoluted so that it provoked the anger of the warden officers and there was persecution.

The Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham) of Southeast Sulawesi is currently investigating the persecution case that occurred on August 15.

Head of the Regional Office of the Kemenkumham Sultra Silvester Sili Laba said that currently his party had formed a joint team to investigate the case.

"On September 1, a special team from the Inspectorate General was led by the Regional Inspector 2 and this combination of regional offices also carried out further investigations and examinations," said Silvester in Kendari, Antara, Tuesday, September 7.

The joint team has left for Baubau Prison in Baubau City to carry out further investigations and examinations.

In this case, the Regional Office of the Kemenkumham Sultra has summoned and examined eight unscrupulous prison officers suspected of beating them.

"Since that incident, the steps taken are on August 23, 2021, we immediately form an inspection team at the regional office and also immediately summon ASN or unscrupulous employees who are suspected of beating the inmates," he said.

Then, on August 24, 2021, the eight officers were already at the regional office to undergo an examination.

Kakanwil also immediately assigned the Head of the Correctional Division and the Head of the Administration Division to conduct direct investigations at Baubau Prison.

"A follow-up examination will be held on August 26, 2021, at the Class IIA Baubau Prison, which is led by the Head of the Administration Division and the Head of the Correctional Division," he continued.

Silvester emphasized that an officer must be able to control emotions in nurturing and providing guidance to the inmates.

"Friends of the guardianship are expected to be able to carry out humanistic activities between members, officials and subordinates, between officials and officials to the inmates who can truly provide humane and hospitality services. It is that hospitality that must be properly maintained, both immigration and penitentiary," said Silvester.
