JAKARTA - A 24-year-old woman in Sichuan Province, China, died on Friday, September 9 after receiving a second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

The woman, who lives in Junlian County, had not previously experienced any side effects from the second dose she received almost three months ago.

The Junlian district administration on Sunday denied rumors linking the woman's death to the COVID-19 vaccine.

In a written statement circulating among Chinese media on Monday, September 6, the Jiang Regency Government revealed that the woman surnamed Jiang was found to have liver dysfunction since last Wednesday.

He then went to a local hospital on Friday night. Doctors recommended proper intravenous treatment for his liver.

But during treatment, Jiang experienced several symptoms, including throat discomfort, shortness of breath, loss of consciousness, and a heart attack.

"He later died that same day," the local authority said in a statement quoted by Antara, Monday, September 6.

The death rocked China's cyberspace because it was linked to a COVID-19 vaccine. The Junlian Regency Government explained that the victim received the first dose of the vaccine on May 30 and the second dose on June 21 without any side effects.

"The incident has nothing to do with vaccination," the local authority said.

Even so, the local government will carry out further investigations to answer rumors that are already circulating widely on social media.
