Finally, The DKI Provincial Government Opened An Additional PPDB Route

JAKARTA - The DKI Jakarta Education Agency has opened an additional route for New Student Admissions (PPDB) for the 2020-2021 school year. This following the selection process for public school students through the zoning route, many parents complained about.

Zoning is a pathway for prospective students to choose schools according to their domicile. The route, which was opened on June 25 to 27, is given a 40 percent portion of the PPDB DKI for the 2020-2021 school year.

Where, when there are two prospective students with the same distance from the residential village to the school, the selection for the fulfillment of the last quota is prioritized for the older student.

If you look at the admission data this year, the quota for class 10 public high schools in Jakarta can only accommodate 32.93 percent of all prospective students. Then, the quota for grade 7 public junior high schools in Jakarta can only accommodate 46.21 percent of all prospective students.

This has been protested by a number of parents of students. Therefore, with the blessing of the Ministry of Education and Culture, the DKI Jakarta Education Agency has opened an additional route called the zoning route for building school RWs.

"We coordinate and accommodate the high interest of public schools, where there are students who are not accepted in one RW with their school. So, today we announce that the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, through the Education Office, will open a path called the zoning route for developing school RWs," said the Head of the Department. Nahdiana Education, Tuesday, June 30.

This auxiliary line is similar to the already closed zoning line reception system. However, the difference in determining which schools can be registered is no longer determining the family, but the scope of the RW.

This is because a number of schools still have zoning route quotas because not many prospective students are chosen. Meanwhile, many students enrolled in schools that were considered favorites, so the quota became full and in the end many students did not pass.

"This route is intended for children who live in the same RW as the school. However, the distribution is not the same. There are RWs that add their study groups but there are few children there. There are also RWs whose children exceed the existing quota. So, our next selection uses age selection, "said Nahdiana.

Nahdiana continued, this RW special zoning route will be open from July 4 to July 6, 2020, after the achievement path admission process is closed. The quota provided on this route comes from the addition of 4 seats per class.

"In order not to misunderstand, this route does not interfere with the existing achievement path portion as much as 25 percent," said Nahdiana.

Previously, the Commissioner for the Protection of Indonesian Children (KPAI) for Education, Retno Listyarti, asked the DKI Provincial Government to be responsible for the chaos of the PPDB zoning system this year. KPAI gave a recommendation that the DKI Provincial Government reopen the second phase of the zoning route.

In the phase 2 zoning route, the quota given can come from an increase in the number of seats in each state school between 2-4 seats per class. This is done to accommodate children whose homes are close to the school in the kelurahan but are not accepted because of their young age.

"If there are only 4 seats per class, surely the school warehouse is still available. Moreover, now it is still the COVID-19 pandemic and there is no learning at school. The Education Office can also provide additional desks if it is not enough," said Retno.
