Houses Scorched In Fire, Hundreds Of Residents Of Kebon Empty Refuge At SDN 09 Kemayoran

JAKARTA – State Elementary School 09, Kemayoran, Central Jakarta has become a refuge for hundreds of victims of the Kebon Blank fire. The huge fire that scorched the housing behind the Grand Palace Kemayoran Apartment, Central Jakarta, Jalan Swadaya Kebon Blank made residents lose their homes.

The village head of Kebon Blank Alfalas explained that hundreds of residents consisted of RT14/RW05 Kebon Blank. They are the victims whose house caught fire, on Sunday, August 29 night.

"Most of the residents have fled to SDN 09 Kebon Blank, while some have moved to their relatives' houses," said Alfalas, quoting Antara, Monday, August 30.

Logistics assistance, such as tents, blankets, baby diapers and other daily necessities have arrived from the Central Jakarta Social Service Sub-dept., BPBD, ACTA, and donors from local residents.

Until now, residents have also been sent food assistance for breakfast at SDN 09 Kebon Blank, Central Jakarta. Meanwhile, Kemayoran Sub-district Head Asep Mulyaman said as many as 70 semi-permanent houses were engulfed in the fire, which is thought to have originated from an electrical short circuit.

"In the meantime, we accommodate residents there. On average, the original residents of Kebon Blank, Kemayoran, whose houses burned down," said Asep.

The Central Jakarta Fire and Rescue Service (Gulkarmat) Sub-dept. recorded that at least 300 people and 100 families were affected by the fire that occurred on Sunday.

A total of 21 units of fire engines (damkar) were deployed to subdue the blaze.
