Next Week Schools In Jakarta May Enter, Anies: Children Don't Have Vaccination Obligations

JAKARTA - DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan has allowed students who have not received the COVID-19 vaccination to take part in face-to-face learning (PTM) during the school's opening next week.

Anies said that when 610 schools in Jakarta were opened, only teachers and other education personnel had to be vaccinated to be able to run PTM in schools.

"There is a stipulation that all can participate in lessons at these 610 schools because the teachers have been vaccinated. As for the children, there is no obligation to be vaccinated," Anies said when met in the West Jakarta area, Friday, August 27.

Anies has certain reasons that make him not oblige students to have been vaccinated to take part in the limited PTM.

According to him, most children are vaccinated or not is the decision of their respective parents. Children who have not been vaccinated are usually because their parents don't allow it.

Therefore, Anies feels sorry if there are students who want to take part in PTM but can't just because they haven't been vaccinated.

"If they are not allowed to go to school because their parents allow them to be vaccinated, then they are like being punished twice. Once they are banned from vaccines and the second is prohibited from going to school. Therefore, they are allowed to go to school," explained Anies.

However, Anies hopes that in the future, the children will be allowed to be vaccinated by their parents because they see that the majority of the school's residents are already vaccinated.

"Later, we hope that he will see and bring information when he returns to his family, that all of his surroundings have been vaccinated, he himself has not been vaccinated," said Anies.

"We encourage parents to give additional protection to children. Apart from wearing masks, wash their hands, allow them to get vaccines so they have extra protection," he continued. mentions the schools that will hold PTM in Jakarta as many as 613 schools. In detail, as many as 85 schools have held PTM trials since April 7, 138 schools on June 9, and an additional 372 schools will join PTM next week.

Taga said the opening of the school next week will be carried out with a limit of 50 percent of the student's capacity to study in class. PTM is held on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday with elementary to high school levels.

Based on provisional data from the Education Office, 92.5 percent of students have been vaccinated. Meanwhile, 7.15 percent have not been vaccinated. Then, 85 percent of teachers in Jakarta have been vaccinated. The remaining 15 percent have comorbidities and have special health conditions that cannot be vaccinated.
