Meeting In Qatar, This Is What Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi And Taliban Officials Discussed

JAKARTA - Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi met with representatives of the Taliban Political Office in Doha, Qatar last Thursday, on the sidelines of a working visit to the country.

In her upload on her official Twitter account, Foreign Minister Retno said there were a number of agendas that were discussed with representatives of the Taliban. From his uploads, there were three important things that were conveyed by Foreign Minister Retno during the meeting.

"On the sidelines of my visit to Qatar, I also met with representatives of the Taliban Political Office in Doha," Foreign Minister Retno wrote, as quoted on Friday, August 27.

"I conveyed to the Taliban the importance of an inclusive government in Afghanistan, respecting women's rights, ensuring that Afghanistan does not become a breeding ground for terrorist organizations and activities," continued Foreign Minister Retno.

Meanwhile, quoting the Taliban's Political Office spokesman Dr. M. Naeem, the Taliban representative who met Foreign Minister Retno, was the Chief of Staff of the Taliban Political Office in Doha, Sher Mohammad Abbad Stanekzai.

"Today, Mr. Sher Mohammad Abbas Stanekzai, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Political Office of DAA, and his accompanying delegation met with Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi and her accompanying delegation in Doha," wrote Dr. M. Naeem.

"The meeting discussed the safety of Indonesian diplomats, the current situation in this country and the future of bilateral relations. The Indonesian delegation thanks the Islamic Emirate for the safety of its diplomats," continued Dr. M. Naeem.

Foreign Minister Retno conducted a meeting with Taliban officials on the sidelines of a visit to Doha, where Foreign Minister Retno met with Qatar's Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani.

"We discussed many issues related to the future of Afghanistan. I reiterated the importance of inclusive governance, respecting women's rights, and ensuring Afghanistan does not become a breeding ground for terrorist organizations and activities," said Foreign Minister Retno.

And, yesterday Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi also held a meeting with the United States Special Envoy for Afghanistan Zalmay Khalizad, to discuss a number of issues related to the evacuation process, security and the future of Afghanistan.
