Youtuber Muhammad Kece Arrested, MUI Encourages Police To Process Cases Transparently

JAKARTA - The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) appreciates the steps taken by the Police to arrest Muhammad Kece on suspicion of blasphemy. MUI encourages the police to process it according to the principle of equality before the law.

Muhammad Kece's name became a conversation after uploading a video on his Youtube page. He often mentions Islam. Kece was then reported by a number of community organizations for his remarks which were considered offensive and could damage religious harmony.

Receiving the report, the police immediately moved and managed to arrest Kece while hiding in the Banjar Untal-Untal Village, Repeat Village, North Kuta District, Badung Regency, Bali Province, Tuesday at around 19.30 WITA.

Ikhsan representing MUI gave appreciation to the police and will continue to follow the ongoing legal process.

"God willing, MUI together with NU, Muhammadiyah and all Islamic organizations gathered at MUI will continue to follow the legal process against the person concerned," he said.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Public Information Bureau (Karopenmas) Brigadier General Rusdi Hartono said investigators in an effort to bring M. Kece from Bali to the Jakarta Criminal Investigation Unit for examination, are expected to arrive at 17.00 WIB.

In this case, investigators already have preliminary evidence in the form of Kece's uploaded video containing religious blasphemy. In addition, investigators have examined the reporting witnesses and expert witnesses consisting of linguistic experts, IT experts, and Islamic religious experts.

"Of course, the evidence uploaded by M. Kece on YouTube and the statements of expert witnesses and reporters are evidence that has been collected by investigators," said Rusdi.

Suspect M. Kece, said Rusdi, was suspected with Article 28 paragraph (2) and junto Article 45 a paragraph (2) could also be charged with other relevant regulations, namely Article 156a of the Criminal Code on Blasphemy of Religion. " said Rusdy.
