JAKARTA - The divorce rate during the COVID-19 pandemic at the East Jakarta Religious Court continues to skyrocket. Based on the data collected, the divorce rate until July 2021 has reached more than 3,000.

The high divorce rate is dominated by dispute factors to family economic problems during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Based on observations at the East Jakarta Religious Court, it can be seen that the employees are busy serving several people who want to file a divorce suit.

Muhammad Iqbal, public relations spokesman for the East Jakarta Religious Court, said the high divorce rate was due to economic factors and disputes within the family, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

There are two types of divorce that occur at the East Jakarta Religious Court, namely divorce due to the husband's divorce and divorce because the wife is sued.

"Currently, the dominant one is from the woman or the wife who is filing for divorce rather than her husband," he told reporters, Wednesday, August 25.

From the data collected, until July this year, there were 868 cases of divorce from husbands. Meanwhile, divorced wives due to economic factors and disputes reached 3,133 cases.

"This pandemic, households have problems due to economic factors caused by their husbands being laid off. When the income is lacking, there are fights and commotions," he said.
