MEDAN - A resident's confession about a new crime mode in the city of Medan has gone viral on social media. The confession was conveyed by the Instagram account @rani_masita.

In his upload, the account owner revealed that the incident occurred in the Teladan area, Simpang Pelangi, Medan. According to him, the victim of street crime is his sister.

"People should be careful with people who claim to be members of the police or Satpol PP. My younger brother just grabbed his cellphone, on the basis of not wearing a mask and claiming to be from the police, they used it in the Exemplary area, Simpang Pelangi," wrote the account owner.

He appealed to Medan residents to be careful. In carrying out his crime, the perpetrator had threatened.

"Just an appeal to others to be careful, sorry if you get the same as my younger brother, his friends. They all took their cellphones, he said, because they didn't wear masks, they threatened that if the cellphones weren't given," he wrote again.

He suspects, the perpetrator also hypnotized his sister when the incident occurred.

"When they were given their cellphones, they said that members of the police just left and it was as if they were hypnotized," he said.

Separately, the Head of Public Relations of the North Sumatra Police, Kombes Hadi Wahyudi, who confirmed that he did not know about the incident.

"I just found out that this is the information, so I don't know the report yet," Hadi said, confirmed by VOI, Tuesday, August 24.

To the residents of Medan, Hadi said that the police in carrying out judicial operations are never alone. Instead, together with the joint team of the COVID-19 Task Force.

"What is clear is that when it comes to the police, we have a COVID task force, there is a judicial operations task force. Judicial operations, the police do not act alone, there are the TNI, the Police, the COVID Task Force, the Health Service, the Satpol PP," he said.

The North Sumatra Police asked the public to be aware of such crimes.

"This mode should not let the public be surprised to be dismissed suddenly, it turns out that it was suspected of using hypnosis. Recognize if the officer joins, wears a uniform, has an identity. They have a task force, do not work alone, this must be watched out for," he said.

Therefore, Kombes Hadi advised the victim to immediately report the incident. Then, he also reminded the public to always obey health protocols.

"Immediately report the incident where, thankfully, CCTV is monitored. The public must be vigilant and must also comply with the applicable health protocols, especially since Medan is still level IV," said Hadi.
