Many People Want A New Normality Because They Think That The Government Cannot Guarantee The Necessities Of Life

JAKARTA - The former Minister of Finance Chatib Basri considered that it was natural for many people to want the new normality to be carried out so that they could carry out their activities. Because they think that the government cannot fulfill their daily needs during a period of social restriction.

Meanwhile, their daily needs must be fulfilled. Thus, they want to do more activities to meet their basic needs.

"The state is unable to provide social protection, so they will force them for activities. Because living in a house costs much more than working even though it is at risk of contracting COVID-19. The middle and lower class groups have no other choice, because they have no income," said Chatib in Jakarta, Thursday 25 June.

This was conveyed by Chatib in response to the results of a survey conducted by Saiful Munjani Research and Consulting (SMRC). The survey conducted by the SRMC related to economic conditions during the COVID-19 pandemic and responses to government policies regarding new normal discourses.

This survey was conducted in the period 18-20 June 2020 to 1,978 respondents. The survey was conducted by contacting respondents by telephone. These respondents are people who have been surveyed in the previous period. The margin of error in this survey is 2.2 percent with a confidence level of 95 percent.

As a result, as many as 81 percent of respondents knew about a new life order, while 19 percent did not know.

Then, of those who know, as many as 80 percent of them want the new normalcy done now. Meanwhile, another 14 percent wanted the new normalcy postponed and 6 percent did not answer.

"Of the respondents who wanted the new normal to be postponed, 58 percent wanted the delay to be carried out until positive cases of COVID-19 in Indonesia decreased, the rest wanted another week, a few weeks, 2 months, 3 months, up to more than 3 months. , "said SMRC Communications Director Ade Armando in a virtual SMRC survey release, Thursday, June 25.

Most people who want a new normalcy come from low education and low income circles. Meanwhile, most people who want the new normality to be postponed come from higher education and high income circles.
