Formula E Is Considered To Have No Sense Of Crisis, The Deputy Governor Of DKI Even Mentions The Tokyo Olympics

JAKARTA - Deputy Governor of DKI Jakarta Ahmad Riza Patria responded to the criticism made by the PDIP faction of the DKI DPRD that the ambition to organize Formula E in 2022 proves that the Provincial Government does not have a sense of crisis.

In this case, DKI does not consider its sensitivity to the current crisis, namely the COVID-19 pandemic. Responding to the criticism, Riza likened the implementation of Formula E to the Olympics which had just been held in Tokyo.

"The Olympics in Tokyo yesterday went well and many other international events are still being held," said Riza at DKI City Hall, Central Jakarta, Thursday, August 19.

Riza sees that athletes who are prepared to take part in competitions must still be given the opportunity to make achievements.

What is clear, said Riza, is that as long as the pandemic is still ongoing, the organization of sports activities must follow health protocols.

"All international events in the world are still scheduled as far as possible. Don't because of the COVID-19 pandemic then they don't get the opportunity to make achievements. However, everything must be in accordance with health protocols," Riza explained. Furthermore, Riza hopes that there will be no spike in COVID-19 cases again in 2022, so that Formula E can run smoothly.

Bearing in mind, the Governor of DKI Jakarta Anies Baswedan has issued Governor's Instruction (Ingub) Number 49 of 2021 concerning the Settlement of Regional Priority Issues for 2021-2022. One of the programs in the Ingub is the target of organizing Formula E in June 2022.

Initially, Formula E was planned to be held in June 2020. However, the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic caused Anies to postpone the electric car racing event.

"God willing, Formula E will still be implemented in 2022. God willing, there will be no significant obstacles. Hopefully there will also be no extraordinary cases related to COVID-19 in 2022," he said.
