Mahfud MD: Our General Political Situation Right Now Is Good And Conducive

JAKARTA - Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menko Polhukam) Mahfud MD said the political situation in the country is currently conducive. Even if there is a debate, according to him, it is a normal thing.

"Our current political situation is generally good, conducive. That there is a debate is actually progress from our political situation," Mahfud said in his video statement to reporters, Thursday, August 19.

He said that in the midst of the current COVID-19 pandemic, all parties must work together to overcome it. The former Chief Justice of the Constitutional Court (MK) also reminded the public that they should not lose activities that are needed in life together.

"We must not lose creativity and activities that are really needed in common life, the life of the nation, and the state," he stressed.

Mahfud was also grateful that the commemoration of the 76th Indonesian Independence Day on Tuesday, August 17, had gone well and full of wisdom. "Especially for example in order to build health and economic development," he said.

Furthermore, Mahfud also mentioned the implementation of the National Sports Week (PON) and the National Paralympic Week (Peparnas) in Papua which will be held in October.

He said that the organizing committee for these two events had been formed and ready to carry out their duties. In addition, the venue where the competition was held has also generally been completed.

"The government and all the committees formed by the government at the central and regional levels are ready to organize PON with the principle of let's be healthy through PON and Peparnas. But also don't forget to maintain health protocols," said Mahfud.

Furthermore, Mahfud believes that the technical problems in the implementation of PON and Perparnas will be completed before 20 September so that the event can be held smoothly.

Moreover, the Ministry of Sports has coordinated with various institutions and ministries. "Let's support everyone, build a conducive situation, both from the political, legal and security point of view," he concluded.
