Omaleng Regent: If You Want To Watch PON, Vaccination Is Mandatory

TIMIKA - Mimika Regent Eltinus Omaleng continues to invite his citizens to take part in the COVID-19 vaccination program as one of the main requirements to be able to watch live sports matches at PON XX, 2-15 October 2021.

"People who want to watch PON XX live in stadiums or arenas should get the vaccine from now on. The opportunity must be used, while the vaccine is free," said Eltinus Omaleng in Timika, quoted by Antara, Tuesday, August 17.

The Regent of Omaleng invited indigenous Papuans to participate in the COVID-19 vaccination program, because so far the biggest refusal reaction to the COVID-19 vaccination has come from local residents.

Even though the Mimika Regency Government has targeted that half of its population of more than 300 thousand people should get a COVID-19 vaccination, considering that Mimika will be one of the cities organizing the XX Papua PON together with Jayapura City, Jayapura Regency and Merauke Regency.

In addition, from the end of October to the first week of November 2021, Timika will host the organization of spiritual activities, namely the XIII Ecclesiastical Choir Party (Pesparawi) at the Papua Province level.

Regarding the implementation of the XX Papua PON which will take place soon, the Regent of Omaleng emphasized that the activity will continue according to the original plan.

He hopes that Mimika residents follow and maintain health protocols so that the transmission of the COVID-19 pandemic in the region can be suppressed and the number of active cases will decrease.

"The public must maintain health protocols. On September 19, athlete guests, officials and contingents from various provinces have started arriving to Timika. Let's welcome them as good hosts," he said.

Mimika will host nine sports with 12 race numbers at the upcoming XX Papua PON.

The sports that will be competed in Timika are athletics for all numbers, basketball, futsal, handball, billiards, rock climbing, fighting drajat, judo, aero modeling, kite flying and parachuting.
