Alert! BMKG Weather Forecast Heavy Rain In Several Provinces, Jakarta

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) reminded the public to be aware of the potential for extreme weather. Heavy rains with lightning and strong winds are forecast in several provinces in Indonesia on Tuesday.

In the weather early warning system, BMKG predicts areas that have the potential to experience heavy rain accompanied by lightning to strong winds, such as in Aceh, Bangka Belitung, Banten, Bengkulu, DKI Jakarta, Gorontalo.

Then Jambi, West Java, East Java, West Kalimantan, South Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, North Kalimantan, Lampung, Maluku, North Maluku. Then in West Nusa Tenggara, West Papua, Riau, West Sulawesi, South Sulawesi, Central Sulawesi, Southeast Sulawesi, West Sumatra, South Sumatra, and North Sumatra.

Meanwhile in West Java, the potential for heavy rain accompanied by lightning can occur in the areas of Bogor Regency and Bogor City, Depok City, Sukabumi Regency and Sukabumi City, Cianjur, Purwakarta, Subang, Greater Bandung, Tasikmalaya Regency and Tasikmalaya City, Garut, Ciamis, Majalengka, Banjar, and Pangandaran in the afternoon to evening.

Extreme weather

Previously, BMKG Deputy for Meteorology Guswanto warned of the potential for extreme weather in a number of provinces which was expected to occur on August 15 to 20, 2021.

He explained that the potential for rain cloud growth is the impact of the increased activity of the Madden Julian Oscillation (MJO) and the Equatorial Rossby wave. "The MJO and the Equatorial Rossby Wave are atmospheric dynamics phenomena that indicate the potential for the growth of rain clouds on a large scale around the region they pass through," he said.

The MJO phenomenon moves from the Indian Ocean to the Pacific Ocean through the territory of Indonesia with a cycle of 30 days to 40 days. Meanwhile, the Rossby Wave phenomenon moves from the Pacific Ocean to the Indian Ocean by passing through Indonesian territory.

"Just like the MJO, when the Rossby Wave is active in Indonesia, it can contribute to increasing the growth of rain clouds in several parts of Indonesia," he said.

In addition, BMKG also warns of potential hydrometeorological disasters for the next five days in the form of floods or flash floods due to heavy rains in Riau, West Sumatra and Jambi.

Jakarta Rain

Especially in the DKI Jakarta area on Tuesday, the potential for rain accompanied by lightning could occur in South Jakarta and East Jakarta in the afternoon and evening.

In an announcement issued through its official website, Tuesday, BMKG explained that the weather conditions were unfavorable covering two areas of the Administrative City, namely South Jakarta and East Jakarta.

In these areas, temperatures will range from 24 to 32 degrees Celsius, with humidity levels as low as 70 percent and as high as 90 percent.

Meanwhile in West Jakarta, North Jakarta, Central Jakarta, and the Thousand Islands Regency, the weather is predicted to be cloudy during the day and at night, with temperatures between 24 and 32 degrees Celsius, and humidity of 80-90 percent.

For areas around Jakarta such as Tangerang City, BMKG predicts that it will be cloudy in the morning and cloudy in the afternoon and evening, with a temperature range of 24-33 degrees Celsius.

However, for West Java Provinces such as Depok City and Bogor City, it is estimated that there will be rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds in the afternoon until the afternoon.

For the Bekasi area, it is predicted that it will be cloudy in the morning until noon, and light rain at night, with temperatures ranging from 21-33 degrees Celsius.
