JAKARTA - A number of scientists in China have started testing phase two of the vaccine in humans.

The Institute of Medical Biology, Chinese Academy of Medical Sciences (IMBCAMS) is conducting human trials or clinical trials aimed at examining the efficacy and safety of vaccines, Reuters reported.

Currently, dozens of vaccines around the world are being researched and tested. However, no large-scale vaccine trials have yet been conducted, which are also called phase three clinical trials. Phase three clinical trials are an important process that must be passed before a vaccine is licensed for sale.

IMBCAMS begins clinical trials of its second phase of vaccine, Saturday, June 20. The vaccines are six of the anti-virus made by Chinese scientists that are still being tested on humans. Phase one vaccine trials have been held since May, involving around 200 volunteers.

Meanwhile, the second stage trial is used to determine how many doses of vaccine are needed. It also examines whether the vaccine can safely affect the immune system of healthy people.

IMBCAMS said it plans to use a factory specifically made to produce the SARS-CoV-2 vaccine, the new type of corona virus that causes COVID-19, to secure vaccine supplies in China.

From late 2020, a number of people with urgent circumstances can receive vaccine shots, said Gao Fu, director of the Chinese Center for Infectious Diseases Control and Prevention, last month.

COVID-19, which was first discovered in China at the end of 2019, has now infected 8.81 million people worldwide and killed more than 460,000 people.
