JAKARTA - The city of Fabbriche in Careggine in Italy, which once sank, is now visible again from the surface of the lake. For the first time this "Atlantis" from Italy is back in sight after being destroyed more than two decades ago.

Quoting Live Science, Fabbriche di Careggine is a city that has existed since the 12th century. The city, which consists of 31 houses and a church, was once inhabited by around 150 residents.

For hundreds of years, the small town was a haven for blacksmiths according to La Repubblica. But in 1946 the city's history came to a halt when the Italian energy company Enel built a hydroelectric dam in the surrounding valley. The townspeople were evacuated to a nearby village, and the town was flooded with water and became an artificial lake, Vagli.

After 75 years at the bottom of the lake, visitors who are curious about Italy's Atlantis can see when the lake is drying up. The last time they could see the city was in 1994.

Then the son of the former local town mayor, Lorenza Giorgi recently said the lake is likely to be drained again in 2021 according to CNN. Meanwhile, Enel's company also said that it started discussing plans to drain the lake, both to clean up Lake Vagli, and to increase tourism in the area.

Investigating the tourism prospects for visitors to the "ghost town" has actually attracted a lot of people. In 1994, for example, when the lake dried up around 1 million tourists flocked to see the city.
