JAKARTA - Coordinator of the Indonesian Anti-Corruption Society (MAKI) Boyamin Saiman is pessimistic that Harun Masiku will soon be arrested even though the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has informed that the National Central Bureau (NCB) of Interpol Indonesia has issued a red notice.

"Very, very pessimistic," said Boyamin in Jakarta as reported by Antara, Monday, August 2.

The announcement of the red notice against Harun Masiku is lip service because it doesn't seem serious. The commemoration of the more than 500 days of fugitive PDI-P politicians, he continued, seemed to make the KPK make efforts to move to arrest Masiku.

Also, the announcement of the red notice issued by the KPK last Friday was merely to avoid public criticism. Moreover, the publication became of little use when it had only been more than a year since Masiku had been on the run.

Boyamin said the notification of the international fugitive should have been issued immediately since Harun Masiku was known to have disappeared.

Boyamin also explained that the biggest obstacle to the protracted Harun Masiku case was solely due to non-technical reasons.

"Only non-technical reasons because there are many interests that are feared to be exposed if Harun Masiku is caught and 'sings' like when Nazarudin exposed the Hambalang and e-KTP cases," he said.

Plt. KPK spokesman Ali Fikri informed last Friday that NCB Interpol Indonesia had issued a red notice on behalf of Harun Masiku.

Ali said the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) continues to work and is seriously trying to find and arrest Masiku, who had previously been listed on the KPK's wanted list (DPO) in the case of interim turnover (PAW) corruption for members of the DPR RI.

"KPK hopes to arrest DPO Harun Masiku," Ali said in his statement in Jakarta.

The Harun Masiku case also ensnared former Commissioner of the General Elections Commission (KPU) Wahyu Setiawan who was sentenced to seven years in prison and a fine of Rp 200 million subsidiary 6 months in prison plus the revocation of political rights in holding public office for five years after serving the main sentence.

Meanwhile, PDI-P cadre Agustiani Tio Fridelina who also received a bribe of Rp. 60 million from Masiku was sentenced to 4 years in prison.

The bribe was intended so that Wahyu could try to get the KPU to approve the PAW request from a member of the Indonesian House of Representatives from the PDI-P faction in the South Sumatra 1st electoral district, Riezky Aprilia, to Harun Masiku.
