KPK Reminds Criminal Threats For Anyone Who Hides Harun Masiku

JAKARTA - The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has issued an ultimatum to impose a criminal article on anyone who tries to hinder the search and arrest of former PDI-P legislative candidate (Caleg) Harun Masiku who is now at large.

Harun is a suspect for giving bribes to former General Elections Commission (KPU) Commissioner Wahyu Setiawan. A bribe was given so that he could sit as a member of the Indonesian House of Representatives through the interim shift (PAW).

"If there are parties who are suspected of deliberately hiding fugitives, we remind them that they can be subject to criminal penalties as stipulated in Article 21 of the Anti-Corruption Law," Acting KPK Spokesperson for Enforcement Affairs Ali Fikri told reporters, Monday, August 2.

As for the article, it is written: Anyone who intentionally prevents, hinders, or thwarts directly or indirectly the investigation, prosecution, and examination in court against suspects and defendants or witnesses in corruption cases, shall be punished with imprisonment for a minimum of 3 years and a maximum of 12 years and/or a fine of at least Rp. 150 million and a maximum of Rp. 600 million. Furthermore, Ali refused to inform the location that investigators had searched for Harun because this matter could not be published. However, he ensured that the KPK continued to try to find the fugitive.

"KPK is still trying to find the said DPO, both domestically and through the Interpol NCB," he said.

As previously reported, the KPK informed the National Central Bureau (NCB) of Interpol Indonesia that it had issued a red notice on behalf of Harun Masiku on Friday, July 30. While domestically he has been on the wanted list (DPO) since January 29, 2020.

In carrying out this search, the anti-corruption commission also cooperated with a number of parties such as the Criminal Investigation Police of the National Police and the Director General of Immigration of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham).
