Mayor Eri Cahyadi Urges Surabaya Residents To Raise The Red And White Flag During August

SURABAYA - Surabaya Mayor Eri Cahyadi appealed to residents to fly the Red and White Flag at full mast during August 2021 to enliven the commemoration of the 76th Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia.

"For the color of the flag that has started to fade, we ask that it be replaced with a new one," said Mayor Eri Cahyadi in Surabaya, quoted by Antara, Sunday, August 1.

The appeal is in accordance with the Letter of the Mayor of Surabaya Number 003.1/8716/436.3.1/2021 which was signed on July 29, 2021. The appeal letter has been distributed to leaders of government institutions or agencies, directors of BUMN/BUMD, leaders of political/community/professional organizations/social/youth, and higher education.

Furthermore, the head of a private office or association of entrepreneurs, print media, electronics/travel/community, and the head of RW/RT throughout the city of Surabaya. Letters were also sent to the ranks of regional officials (PD) within the Surabaya City Government, both sub-districts and residences throughout Surabaya.

In the appeal letter, Mayor Eri asked residents to play an active role in enlivening the commemoration of the 76th Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia. Mayor Eri made several points in the letter, namely urging residents to do community service.

However, he continued, because it is still the COVID-19 pandemic, community service activities in each neighborhood can be carried out individually, in groups, and institutionally by cleaning waterways or public facilities (pedestrians), schools, shops, offices. private sector and government, as well as the residential environment.

"Of course, this community service activity must be carried out with health protocols," he said.

In addition, Eri appealed to decorate the city, including decorating offices, hotels, malls, restaurants, supermarkets, public entertainment venues, private offices, schools, and residential areas.

Eri asked residents to put up logos, repaint buildings, fences, and gates that were already dull. Meanwhile, billboard license holders are required to clean, paint and decorate billboards on pedestrian bridges, road signs, or at designated billboard points.

To decorate this city to make it look more presentable and orderly, continued Eri, the implementation can be coordinated with the Surabaya City Government's Gardening and Hygiene Service on Menur street No. 31 Surabaya.

To instill a sense of nationalism and the values of the nation's struggle and love for the country, Eri asked residents to play struggle songs and wear a red and white pin on the left chest from 1-31 August 2021.

"We ask to carry out the Red and White Flag Raising Ceremony on August 17, 2021, at 08.00 western Indonesia time, followed by employees or female employees while still complying with health protocols," he said.

There are also procedures for the flag-raising ceremony to commemorate the 76th Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia by raising the Red and White Flag accompanied by the National Anthem of Indonesia Raya, a moment of silence, the reading of Pancasila, and the Opening of the 1945 Constitution, the mandate of the ceremonial inspector, and prayer together.

"Meanwhile, the theme of the commemoration of the 76th Republic of Indonesia's Anniversary in 2021 is 'Indonesia is Resilient, Indonesia Grows'," he said.
