MAKASSAR - Makassar Port Police, South Sulawesi, arrested the perpetrators of the hit-and-run of cyclists. The incident, which was captured on video surveillance cameras (CCTV), has gone viral on social media.

The Head of the Port Police, AKBP Kadarislam, said that his party moved quickly after the viral video related to the hit-and-run that occurred on Jalan Nusantara Makassar and managed to catch the culprit.

"This afternoon they arrived and their statements were taken at the Resort Police. For now, we are still conducting investigations," he said, quoted by Antara, Friday, July 30.

The police chief said that the perpetrator of the crash who used a rescue double cabin car belonging to the Takalar District Social Service with the initials SB, who was none other than the driver of the Takalar Social Service Head, Dirham.

The driver hit the bike on the morning of Wednesday, July 28. At that time Kadinsos Takalar Dirham and his driver SB had just carried out their activities and rushed back to Takalar.

However, when on Jalan Nusantara due to the light traffic conditions and there were only a few groups of cyclists and other two-wheeled vehicles passing by.

"The traffic situation seems quiet, so the car is speeding up to hurry back to Takalar. We have checked all the witnesses," he said.

From the results of the interim examination, the perpetrator admitted his actions and did not dare to help the victim after the collision because the victim's colleague was involved in boisterous cheers so that the perpetrator fled.

"This perpetrator stopped after the incident, but because of the crowded situation and lots of cheers, the perpetrator fled. The perpetrator was afraid, especially since the head of the service was old, so he fled," he said.

For this incident, the police will use Article 312 of Law No. 22 of 2009.

"The penalty is three years in prison and a maximum fine of Rp. 75 million. We have secured the official car now as evidence," he explained.
