Police Steps To Investigate Alleged Leaks Of 2 Million BRI Life Customer Data

JAKARTA - The Criminal Investigation Unit of the National Police has started investigative steps to investigate the alleged leak of 2 million BRI Life customer data. Although, it's still in the early stages.

"The Dittipideksus is currently investigating," said the Chief of the Criminal Investigation Department, Komjen Agus Andrianto, in his statement, Wednesday, July 28.

In this case, the news of the hacking of BRI Life customer data was first revealed by Hudson Rock, a cyber security company in Tel Aviv, Israel, Tuesday, July 27.

The company found evidence that several computers belonging to BRI and BRI Life employees had been hacked and paved the way for access to personal data belonging to around 2 million customers.

One of the founders and boss of Hudson Rock, on his personal Twitter showed several videos and photos containing leaked BRI Life customer data. Among the data there are photos of ID cards, bank accounts, NPWP numbers, family cards, photos of account books, account numbers, and reports on customer laboratory examination results.

In addition, the data of 2 million BRI Life customers was sold on the RaidForums forum. The sale of the data is in the form of 460 thousand documents.

The data and even then are sold at a fairly expensive price, namely, 7,000 United States (US) dollars or around Rp. 101 million.

In this case, Agus said it was more directed to banking problems. Thus, information gathering must be carried out to prove the allegations that occurred.

"Regarding banking. BRI Life data. The data is supposed to come from there," said Komjen Agus.

In addition, the Director of Special Economic Crimes, Brigadier General Helmy Santika, said that in the first step of the investigation, his party opened the possibility of examining BRI Life. to ensure whether or not there is a leak of customer data.

"Later the direction is there (check BRI Life)," said Helmy.

Meanwhile, for the development of the investigation process, Helmy said that there was nothing significant. So far, his party is still looking for the facts or the truth of the alleged leak of BRI Life customer data.

"Still being investigated, where is the leak? Like what?" he said.

In addition, his party will also coordinate with the Directorate of Cyber Crime (Dittipidsiber). The reason, the emergence of this case started from the news that went viral on social media.

So, continued Helmy, cyber parties will dig up information and clues regarding the truth of the alleged data leak.

"Initially it appeared on twitter or social media and then the media took it. So we had to investigate it first in coordination with the Cyber Crime Investigation Unit," said Helmy.
