25 Restaurants In Jogja Choose To Close When PPKM, PHRI: Food Stalls Can Dine In, This Is A Dilemma

YOGYAKARTA - The Association of Indonesian Hotels and Restaurants (PHRI) of the Special Region of Yogyakarta said there are still a number of restaurants that are members of the association who chose to temporarily close their businesses during the extension of the PPKM. Restaurant owners do not take the option of opening a take-away or take-away food service.

"Since the beginning of the PPKM implementation, there have been some members who chose to 'down' first because there were special reasons that caused us not to take the take away service option," said Deputy Chair of the DPD Restaurant Division of the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) DIY Aldi Fadlil. Diyanto in Yogyakarta was quoted by Antara, Wednesday, July 28.

According to him, of the nearly 25 restaurants in Yogyakarta that are members of PHRI DIY, there are three restaurants that choose to temporarily close their businesses and about 10 restaurants outside of PHRI members who also close their businesses.

A number of reasons for business actors to temporarily close restaurants are due to market segmentation that is not possible if they continue to provide take away services, including restaurants managed by Aldi.

“For example, at my restaurant, Sekar Kedathon. Because the market segmentation is corporate and tourism, it is not possible to serve take away. So it's temporarily closed," he said.

Usually, continued Aldi, restaurants that are able to provide take away services optimally are restaurants with fast food menus because they are considered more practical by consumers and have more affordable prices.

Although most restaurants can provide take away services, the extension of PPKM which has been carried out twice, continued Aldi, puts more pressure on culinary business actors.

“Some of our members have also started asking when it is permissible to open a dine-in service because until now it has not been allowed according to applicable regulations. Even though food stalls can open dine-in on a limited basis," he said.

Therefore, Aldi hopes that the local government can take firm action against food stalls that violate PPKM rules.

“Many members have asked why restaurants are not allowed to open dine-ins. This is a dilemma. However, as an association, we urge members to continue to comply with PPKM rules. On the other hand, we hope that the enforcement of the rules will be carried out firmly and more massively," he said.

Overall, Aldi ensured that all restaurants in the city of Yogyakarta that were included as members of the DIY PHRI had pocketed the health protocol verification.

"We also routinely carry out inspections and all comply with and carry out the health protocols that have been established," he said.
