JAKARTA - The Syrian anti-aircraft defense system claimed to have successfully intercepted an Israeli military air strike in the Qusair area of Homs Province, according to Syrian state media Thursday, July 22 local time.

Citing The Jerusalem Post, Surah's military source said the attack this time caused some material damage. However, the source also said there were no casualties in this attack. There is no comment from the Israeli military on this matter.

This attack is the second time in four days, after Israel carried out air strikes last Monday, in safe Syria also claiming to have intercepted an attack in Aleppo.

Behind Syria's success in intercepting four Israeli fighter jet missiles, there is a Russian anti-aircraft defense system. As one of the allies of the Bashar al-Assad government, Russia places troops and homemade weapons in Russia.

"The four missiles were destroyed by a Syrian air defense facility, using the Russian-made Buk-2ME system," said Skin.

Meanwhile, in Monday's attack on Aleppo, Russia's air defense system managed to down seven of eight Israeli fighter jet missiles. This time, it was the Pantsir-S and Buk-M2 air defense systems that managed to intercept the Israeli fighter jet missiles.

Meanwhile, the Pantsir-S is a self-propelled medium-range anti-aircraft defense which was designed in 1990 and entered service in 2012. Just like the Buk Missile System, the Pantsir includes a surface-to-air missile defense system. The difference is, the Pantsir can also act as an anti-aircraft artillery system.
