JAKARTA - The figure of Soekarno cannot be doubted by the Indonesian people. He fought his way to free his beloved homeland. Thanks to his efforts, many monuments or places bear his name.

Respect for Soekarno not only from the Indonesian people, but also from the people of other countries. One of them is Algeria, North Africa.

As a form of respect and cooperation with Indonesia, a statue or monument in the form of Soekarno stands firm in the city of Algiers. After about a month from the groundbreaking process, on February 16, the monument was finally completed.

The Governor of West Java, Ridwan Kamil, was one of the people who spread the news. Through his social media account @ridwankamil, he wrote that the Bung Karno monument had been completed at one of the main road intersections.

"Alhamdulillah, the Bung Karno Monument in the capital city of Algiers in Algeria has been standing on a roundabout at a main road intersection," Ridwan wrote as seen by VOI, Sunday, June 7.

Not many words were written by Ridwan. However, it was stated that the construction of the monument was the request of the Governor of the capital of Algeria. In making it, it also collaborated with female artists from Indonesia.

"This monument is the personal request of Governor Algiers, therefore we respond to this honor by designing together the artist, Mrs. Dolorosa Sinaga," concluded Ridwan.

Referring to other information uploaded by historian Bonnie Triyana, the statue will be inaugurated on 15 July. Briefly, Bonnie also explained Bung Karno's role for Algeria. According to Bonnie, Bung Karno had a big contribution to the independence of Algeria from French colonialism.

In 1956, one year after KAA Bandung, Bung Karno gave a house located on Jalan Serang, Menteng, Central Jakarta to the Algerian National Liberation Front (NLF). The office became the coordination center for the NLF, including in garnering political support from countries in Asia.
