Reported To Police After Laser Shot 'Dare To Be Honestly Fired' At The KPK Building, Greenpeace Indonesia Confused

JAKARTA - Greenpeace Indonesia Forest Campaigner Asep Komaruddin is confused by the report to the police by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) due to a laser shot at the Red and White House on 28 June.

He even admitted that he had just heard the news from another party and had not received any letter, including a summons from the police.

"We don't know if it was reported and we haven't received any letter and are a bit confused about what it was reported for," Asep told reporters, Tuesday, July 20.

This confusion arises because previously the KPK said it appreciated what Greenpeace Indonesia had done and called it support for eradicating corruption.

"After the action, there was a statement from the Acting Spokesperson for the KPK for Enforcement, Ali Fikri, who responded and appreciated it because it was considered as support for eradicating corruption," said Asep.

As previously reported, Greenpeace Indonesia's laser shooting at the KPK building resulted in a report to the police. The laser shot contained writings in the form of criticisms of the KPK by the civil society group #CleanIndonesia. This report was carried out by the general bureau of the anti-corruption commission to the South Jakarta Police.

"KPK through the general bureau has coordinated and reported to the South Jakarta Police," Acting KPK Spokesperson for Enforcement Ali Fikri told reporters quoted on Tuesday, July 20.

The laser shooting was reported on suspicion of holding demonstrations outside the permitted hours, which was around 19.05 WIB. In addition, this action has the potential to disrupt the order and convenience of the KPK's office operations as a vital national object.

"We consider that there is a potential for intentional disturbance of order and convenience in the operation of the KPK office as a vital national object carried out by the intended external party," said Ali.

Furthermore, he said that when the laser shooting took place, the KPK and its security forces had banned Greenpeace. However, these non-governmental organizations (NGOs) actually ignored the prohibition that was conveyed.

For this reason, the KPK decided to report the incident and hand it over to the police.

"Considering that the activities are carried out outside the specified time and without permission from the competent authorities. However, these parties continue to do so by moving locations," he said.
