KPK Perppu That Escapes The Discussion On Anti-Corruption Day

JAKARTA - The Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs (Menkopolhukam) Mahfud MD said there was no discussion about the KPK Law Substitute Regulation (Perppu) to cancel the KPK Law Number 19 of 2019.

This was conveyed by Mahfud after he participated in the highlight of the 2019 World Anti-Corruption Day (Hakordia) accompanying Vice President Ma'ruf Amin who replaced President Jokowi.

"There is no discussion of the Perppu (KPK), this is anti-corruption day," Mahfud told reporters at the KPK Support Building, Jalan Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta, Monday, December 9.

In fact, the day before the event was held, KPK Deputy Chairman Saut Situmorang said that his party still hoped that Jokowi would give a gift at the 2019 Hakordia celebration by coming to the KPK with the replacement regulation.

"Did (the president) come, we don't know. Coming with the perppu is cool. If it doesn't become a perppu? It's not cool," he said in Jakarta, Sunday, December 8.

It's just that, hope is just hope. Apart from the absence of a KPK Perppu on the commemoration of World Anti-Corruption Day, Jokowi was also absent from the event. The former governor of DKI Jakarta prefers to attend the anti-corruption day celebration at the 57 State Vocational High School (SMK), Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta.

There, Jokowi witnessed a stage entitled 'Achievement Without Corruption' played by the Minister of Education and Culture Nadiem Makarim, Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Whisnutama, Minister of BUMN Erick Thohir and artists Bedu and Sogi Indra Dhuaja.

After watching the show, President Jokowi spoke about his absence at the 2019 Hakordia event. He said he had deliberately shared tasks with Vice President Ma'ruf Amin, who had never attended the event.

In addition, he talked about the KPK Perppu. If previously Jokowi argued that he was waiting for the results of the judicial review at the Constitutional Court (MK), now Jokowi said he would wait for the implementation of the KPK Law 19 of 2019 and then conduct an evaluation.

"We are still seeing, considering but the law has not yet been implemented," Jokowi told reporters at SMK 57, Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta, December 9.

One of the things Jokowi wants to see is the KPK Supervisory Board. According to him, he chose to monitor the performance of the supervisory board and the leadership of the KPK first and then conduct an evaluation.

"When it is complete, there will be a supervisory board, there will be a new KPK leader, we will evaluate it later," he said.

Previously, Presidential Spokesman Fadjroel Rachman also conveyed certainty about the absence of a KPK Perppu. He said, the regulation to cancel the Corruption Eradication Commission Law Number 19 of 2019 was no longer needed.

"There is no dong (the issuance of the Perppu). The Perppu is no longer needed. There is already a law, namely Law Number 19 of 2019. No more Perppu is needed," Fadjroel told reporters at the Presidential Palace, Central Jakarta, Friday, November 29.
