A Day Receives 30 Funeral Requests, Sleman COVID-19 Task Force Decontamination Team Claims To Be Overwhelmed

YOGYAKARTA - The Decontamination and Funeral Team of the COVID-19 Handling Task Force (Satgas) of Sleman Regency, Yogyakarta Special Region has buried 534 bodies of COVID-19 patients during July 1-14, 2021.

The Coordinator of the Decontamination and Funeral Team for the COVID-19 Handling Task Force of Sleman Regency, Makwan, said that at the same time, his party also carried out the burial of 129 bodies of residents who died during self-isolation (isoman).

"In addition, we have also carried out assistance and remediation for residents exposed to COVID-19 who died on the way to the hospital," said Makwan in Sleman, as reported by Antara, Thursday, July 15.

In the last few days, the Decontamination and Funeral Teams have been a bit overwhelmed in handling the bodies of COVID-19 patients due to many requests.

"In one day it can reach more than 30 requests for funerals and burials," he said.

He hopes that the community will support efforts to contain COVID-19 by remaining disciplined in implementing health protocols, wearing masks, washing hands, maintaining distance, reducing mobility, and avoiding crowds.

"The community must strictly comply with health protocols, because the COVID-19 cases in Sleman continue to grow and the transmission rate is quite high," he said.

The increase in cases of COVID-19 transmission has filled patient beds in hospitals, so that some people with corona virus infection choose to self-isolate at home.

"Every time volunteers find a room, the condition of the hospital is full, so patients choose isoman," said Makwan.
