The Pattern Of Turning Off Street Lights To Prevent Crowds Has Spread, Now It's The Tangerang City Government's Turn

TANGERANG - The Tangerang City Government, Banten turned off the Public Street Lighting (PJU) lights at a number of points at night during Emergency PPKM. The goal is to prevent crowds of people because of the potential for COVID-19 transmission.

"Efforts to extinguish the PJU lights were carried out referring to the results of the coordination meeting with the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment and the agreement with the Tangerang City Forkopimda elements in an effort to break the chain of spread of COVID-19," Tangerang City Secretary Herman Suwarman said, quoted by Antara, Wednesday, July 14.

He explained that the blackout of public street lighting is to limit the mobility of people in crowded places in Tangerang City.

"There are still many people who gather to just chat at night, this is what we avoid so we extinguish it at points that have the potential to cause crowds," he said.

Herman said if people's mobility decreased, COVID-19 cases would also decrease.

PJU blackouts will be carried out in several locations with potential crowds, including Jalan Daan Mogot, Jalan Soleh Ali, Maulana Hasanudin, Hasyim Ashari, Perumnas area, Pasar Anyar, and Jalan Satria Sudirman.

"Public street lighting in Tangerang City is extinguished during the Emergency PPKM period, the blackout starts every 20.00 hours until morning," he said.

Herman hopes that the community can reduce activities outside the home to avoid exposure to COVID-19, especially in Tangerang City.

"I hope the public understands the dangers of the COVID-19 virus, if there is no urgent need, you don't have to leave the house, even if it is urgent, you must strictly implement health protocols," he said
