BANGLI - The water in Lake Batur in Kintamani District, Bangli Regency, Bali, has turned green. Changes in water color occur since early morning.

The change in the color of the water of Lake Batur is said to occur due to a burst of sulfur from the slopes of Mount Batur.

"The reason is because of the sulfur burst from Mount Batur. That is a volcanic lake with Mount Batur," said Bangli Regency Agriculture, Food Security and Fisheries (PKP) Head I Wayan Sarma when contacted, Wednesday, July 14.

The phenomenon of changing the color of Lake Batur water is an annual phenomenon that can occur once a year or two. However, to return to normal depending on the gust of wind in the area.

"Depending on the wind, if the wind is still strong it could be a week. If it is not accompanied by strong winds, it will be finished for at most 4 days," added Sarma.

If this phenomenon continues, it will have an impact on fish farmers in the area. However, for now there have been no reports of fish deaths in the area.

"If the burst is large, the fish will die. That is, this phenomenon every year could be the last two times and last March," said Sarma.

Currently in the Lake Batur area there are as many as 12 thousands of floating net cages (KJA) with around 500 tilapia farmers or breeders.

"There are about 500 farmers who cultivate tilapia. There has not been (there are reports) until now the fish have died, but if it continues, it is accompanied by continuous bursts of fish, usually accompanied by fish death," he said.

The phenomenon of changing the color of Lake Batur's water is already known by breeders and farmers in the Lake Batur area. The PKP has provided education to people who have KJA.

"This means (when they sow (fish seeds)) they arrange for these months which are usually February-March and July to August. These fish have started to harvest, so they can reduce losses," said Sarma.
