JAKARTA - Sustainable tourism is considered as the most important aspect for the development of the tourism sector in the new era of normality after the COVID-19 outbreak. This aspect is applied in line with the health protocol policy which is supported by readiness in tourist destination areas.

Plt. Deputy for Resources and Institutions of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy, Frans Teguh, explained that sustainable tourism will be a choice and a consequence of the tourism development section, after the COVID-19 outbreak.

"In the future, what we need to strengthen is people-centered tourism or community-based tourism which includes increasing product diversification, services according to the needs of community behavior, service patterns and efforts to increase the power of local wisdom which eventually becomes a unique selling point. Teguh said that this must be maintained, maintained and managed with the support of quality human resources in the future. In addition, it is necessary to apply the value of domestic sustainability such as local wisdom, and balanced tourism.

Furthermore, Teguh gave an example of the island of Bali, which is expected to be a province that is ready if the tourism sector is opened gradually. Because it is relatively safer and the trend shows that controlling and managing this crisis is in accordance with health and safety protocols.

In addition, said Teguh, the people of the Island of the Gods have a collective awareness, local wisdom for a long time and still maintain and care for social capital such as values of customs, traditions, culture and the environment.

"Bali becomes a model or an example to become a national model. How can the people have a relatively high collective awareness, and always learn from crisis to crisis, always trying to maintain a balance. Bali has developed and transformed in the tourism sector since more than 100 years ago," he explained.

According to Teguh, the process of social and cultural transformation has become the strength of the social capital entity and the sustainability of the life of the Balinese people.

Cooperation of All Stakeholders

Teguh explained that to implement sustainable tourism more widely, cooperation from all tourism stakeholders is needed. Currently, tourism stakeholders have the momentum to fix, organize and prepare strategies and steps for reopening or rebounding tourism recovery.

According to Teguh, the government offers concepts and strategies to apply sustainable tourism development schemes and patterns with the parameters and indicators comprehensively included in efforts to deal with crises and aspects of cleanliness, health and safety.

"The sustainable tourism program is not only sectoral work, but it must be comprehensive both from the community, government, academia, and others, or what we usually call pentahelix. Various disciplines and stakeholders must work together and improve governance aspects, economic aspects, socio-culture. and the environment to increase competitiveness, reputation and public trust as well as the value of the sustainability of tourism resources, "he said.

On the same occasion, API Chairman Ari Purbayanto explained, since the outbreak of COVID-19, the tourism sector has been severely affected. Therefore, the API contributes to the thought of ideas and direct action. So that thinking is beneficial for the nation and state for the people of Indonesia.

"Tourism has become one of the spearheads for Indonesia. There are many things that need to be prepared in this period of relaxation in the tourism sector.
