JAKARTA - Spokesperson for the COVID-19 Task Force, Wiku Adisasmito, explained that the increase in COVID-19 cases will increase even more over the coming days.

"As an anticipation, the number of cases may increase for several days before the effects of the emergency PPKM can be seen," said Wiku in a live broadcast on the Presidential Secretariat's Youtube, Tuesday, July 6.

He explained, currently the number of active COVID-19 cases touched the highest number during the pandemic in Indonesia, which was 324,597 cases.

"Previously, our highest record of active cases was 176,672 on February 5 last," he said.

Meanwhile, in weekly national developments, positive cases this week reached 168,767 cases. This figure increased 34.6 percent from the previous week.

This increase was contributed by 5 provinces with the highest increase, namely DKI Jakarta which increased by 14,508, West Java increased by 10,367, East Java rose by 2,905, DI Yogyakarta rose by 2,173, and East Kalimantan increased by 1,749.

"It needs to be a concern after several weeks of being dominated by the island of Java. This week, East Kalimantan is included in one of the provinces with the highest increase in cases this week," said Wiku.

However, Wiku also brings good news. As of today, we achieved the highest additional daily cure, which was 15,863 people who recovered in one day and a total recovery of 1,958,553 cases.

"Of course, this number must continue to be increased considering we are working with the addition of daily positive cases which is also high," he said.

Wiku asked the public to comply with all the Emergency PPKM rules until July 20. Because, if the community continues to implement strict health protocols, the emergency PPKM will run effectively with a decrease in cases that will occur after the spike.

"All levels of society are requested to obey the regulations during Emergency PPKM so that Emergency PPKM is not in vain. It is also requested for the non-essential private sector to comply with regulations and not force employees to work from the office," explained Wiku.
