The Closed Mall And The View Of The Empty Sudirman-Thamrin During Emergency PPKM In Jakarta

JAKARTA - A number of malls in Jakarta are temporarily closed from trading activities during the Implementation of Emergency Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) from 3-20 July 2021 to control the transmission of COVID-19.

"Malls must close, only essential ones open, such as modern supermarkets and pharmacies," said Grand Indonesia Corporate Communications Annisa Hazarini, quoted by Antara, Saturday, July 3.

According to him, there are only two supermarkets selling basic necessities, which are open with strict health protocols.

In addition, not all food and beverage outlets in the mall are open, but only accept delivery services and do not serve dine-in.

Another mall, FX Sudirman, is also temporarily closed, following government instructions.

The gate of the mall, which is near the Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) stadium, was tightly closed to avoid crowds of visitors.

A similar view was observed at Plaza Senayan, which was quiet from the traffic of visitors.

There are only security officers who carry out surveillance and a few pedestrians crossing the sidewalk in front of the shopping center.

Another mall, Senayan City, is also empty of visitor activities in line with the implementation of the Emergency Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM).

Previously, the Minister of Home Affairs, Tito Karnavian, officially issued the Instruction of the Minister of Home Affairs Number 15 of 2021 concerning the Implementation of Restrictions on Community Activities or the COVID-19 Emergency PPKM in Java and Bali.

There are a number of community activities, especially those related to mall/shopping center operations, which are regulated in the latest instructions, including restaurants, including those inside malls, which can only serve food delivery and do not accept meals on site.

There are also shopping centers/malls/trade centers that are temporarily closed except for access to modern restaurants, shops and supermarkets.

Supermarkets, traditional markets, grocery stores and supermarkets selling daily necessities are limited to operating hours until 20.00 WIB.

Jalan Sudirman-Thamrin is deserted

Jalan Sudirman-Thamrin, Jakarta was deserted from the mobility of residents and motorized vehicle traffic, on the first day of the Implementation of the Emergency Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) July 3-20 to control the spread of COVID-19.

The route to the Senayan Roundabout is also barricaded and diverted to Jalan Senopati-Jalan Patimura.

A number of police officers assisted by the TNI and Satpol PP are on standby at a number of points, including at intersections, one of which is on Jalan Pintu Satu Senayan or near FX Sudirman to Jl Sudirman.

Vehicles passing from Jalan Asia Afrika who want to go to Jl Sudirman via Jalan Pintu Satu Senayan, are then asked to turn around.

However, officers still give exceptions to drivers who bring sick residents to the hospital.

Conditions at 11.00 WIB around Jalan Sudirman-Thamrin to the Senayan Roundabout were no traffic congestion due to traffic restrictions on the first day of Emergency PPKM.

Previously, the Polda Metro Jaya conducted isolation at 63 points of entry and exit for Jakarta, Depok, Tangerang and Bekasi (Jadetabek) regarding the Implementation of the Java-Bali Emergency Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM).

"There are 63 points that we are guarding, consisting of 28 points located on city limits and toll roads, then 21 points for mobility restrictions in locations prone to violations, which are still running," said Traffic Director of Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Pol Sambodo Purnomo Yogo at Jakarta, Friday (2/7).

The isolation was enforced starting Saturday (3/7) at around 00.00 WIB and individuals who were still allowed to do activities outside the home were only those who worked in the essential sector.
