Fry Export Permit Bribery Case, Edhy Prabowo Sued 5 Years In Prison

JAKARTA - The former Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Edhy Prabowo, was sentenced to 5 years in prison for the bribery case for the license to export lobster seeds or fry. In addition to imprisonment, Edhy Prabowo is also required to be fined Rp. 400 million, subsidiary to 6 months in prison.

"The defendant was sentenced to 5 years in prison and a fine of Rp. 400 million, subsidiary to 6 months in prison," said the prosecutor reading out the charges in the trial at the Corruption Court, Jakarta, Tuesday, June 29.

The prosecutor considers mitigating and aggravating factors in his claim. For mitigating matters, Edhy Prabowo was considered polite during the trial.

As for the burdensome thing, Edhy Prabowo is considered not to support the government's program in eradicating corruption. In addition, as a state official, Edhy Prabowo is considered not to be a good role model.

"The burdensome thing is that the actions of the defendant Edhy Prabowo do not support the government's program in eradicating KKN. The defendant as a state administrator, namely the minister, did not set a good example," said the prosecutor.

"The mitigating thing is that the defendant behaved politely in court, has never been convicted, some assets have been confiscated," he continued.

With other considerations, the prosecutor decided that Edhy Prabowo legally and convincingly committed a criminal act of corruption. This is in accordance with the indictment of Article 12 letter a of the Corruption Eradication Law in conjunction with Article 55 paragraph 1 1 of the Criminal Code in conjunction with Article 65 paragraph 1 of the Criminal Code.

"Declaring that the defendant Edhy Prabowo has been proven legally and convincingly guilty of committing a criminal act of corruption together," said the prosecutor.

Edhy Prabowo was previously charged with accepting bribes of up to IDR 25.7 billion. This bribe is related to the export license for lobster seeds or fry.

The bribe was received by Edhy Prabowo from fry exporters through Amiril Mukminin, Safri, Ainul Faqih, Andreau Misanta Pribadi, and Siswadhi Pranoto Loe.

In the indictment, Edhy received bribes amounting to 77 thousand United States (US) dollars, or if it is converted into current rupiah, it reaches Rp1,126,921,950. The bribe was received through his staff, namely Safri and Amiril Mukminin from the owner of PT Dua Putera Perkasa Pratama (PT DPP), Suharjito.

Then, Edhy also received Rp24,625,587,250. This money was provided by Suharjito and other exporters through his staff.
