LPSK Ready To Provide Protection To 16-Year-Old Girl Rape Victim, First Brigadier II, Asks Witnesses Not To Be Afraid Of Intimidation

JAKARTA - Deputy Chairperson of the Witness and Victim Protection Agency (LPSK) Edwin Partogi Pasaribu condemned the lecherous act of raping a 16-year-old teenager at the Sector Police allegedly carried out by the First Brigadier II police officer. II is a member of the South Jailolo Police, West Halmahera Regency.

"Instead of being a protector, the actions of these individuals have tarnished the image of the Police. The police headquarters, which should be safe, now looks scary to the public," he said in a written statement as quoted by Antara, Thursday, June 24.

Edwin urged law enforcement to be carried out transparently. This is important so that public trust and the authority of the Police as protectors and protectors of the community can be restored.

LPSK, said Edwin, is ready to assist investigators in the legal process, especially in providing protection for witnesses in the rape case.

"Those who have information and know about the incident can speak out to help investigators, no need to fear intimidation or threats," he said.

He emphasized that LPSK will cooperate with the police to restore the victims. Moreover, the victim is still a minor. Trauma and fear are very likely to whack the victim.

"The perpetrators are state officials and the location of the incident is in the state house," said Edwin.

In the near future, LPSK will dispatch a team to meet the victims, conduct medical and psychological assessments and coordinate with the North Maluku Police Chief to find out the progress of the legal process.

As mandated by the Law on the Protection of Witnesses and Victims, victims can access services from the state through LPSK, including physical protection, psychological and psychosocial rehabilitation.

Not only that, the victim can also file a claim for compensation (restitution) against the perpetrator whose calculations will be carried out by the LPSK.
