COVID-19 Cases Soar, Tangerang Regency Government Delays Face-to-Face Learning

JAKARTA - The Tangerang Regency Government, Banten has postponed the implementation of Face-to-face Learning (PTM) for Elementary School and Junior High School students in the 2020/2021 Academic Year.

This step was taken in line with the increasing number of new cases of COVID-19 transmission in a number of local areas.

"Considering that the COVID-19 pandemic condition in Tangerang Regency is increasing, we have postponed the implementation of face-to-face learning in 2020/2021," said Head of the Tangerang Regency Education Office, Saefullah in Tangerang, as reported by Antara, Thursday, June 24.

Previously, the Tangerang Regency Government planned to implement face-to-face learning in the new school year. However, with the condition that the Tangerang Regency area is in the orange zone and several cases continue to increase, it is very likely that the PTM activity will be postponed until an uncertain time limit.

"This handling is certain until the COVID-19 case is completely safe, if it is safe, God willing, we will open it as soon as possible," he said.

However, his party still fulfills the supporting facilities and infrastructure for the needs of PTM in accordance with the provisions of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology.

"Technically and supporting needs from July 2020 we have started to fulfill it, and the results until now we make sure that they have been fulfilled and are ready according to health protocol standards," he said.

According to him, the local government is currently making various efforts to control the spread of the corona virus through optimizing the implementation of micro Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM) and accelerating the acceleration of vaccination programs in areas with red zone conditions.

"Now the government is focusing on controlling the current spike in cases. Therefore, all elements of society must participate in controlling this pandemic so that everything can return to normal, be it the economic sector or education," he said.
