JAKARTA - Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) said that Firli Bahuri's mission to weaken the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has come to light.

This was conveyed in response to the survey results from the Cyrus Network which stated that public trust in the Police was higher than the KPK.

"Gradually, Firli Bahuri's mission as the Chair of the KPK has come to light," said ICW researcher Kurnia Ramadhana in a written statement to reporters quoted on Wednesday, June 23.

As for the results of the survey, which was held from May 28 to June 1, 2021, 86.2 percent of respondents said they believed in the National Police.

With this figure, the level of public trust in the National Police is higher than other law enforcement agencies such as the Supreme Court (MA) by 85.9 percent; Attorney General's Office by 82.2 percent; and the KPK by 80.7 percent.

Seeing these figures, Kurnia said Firli had succeeded in carrying out a number of missions to weaken the KPK, starting from making controversial policies to getting rid of dozens of employees with integrity through the National Insight Test (TWK).

"This time Firli has again succeeded in lowering the level of public trust in the anti-corruption agency," he said.

Due to this condition, ICW then asked the former Deputy for Enforcement of the KPK to immediately resign from his position as Chair of the KPK. This needs to be done so that the agenda of eradicating corruption can be carried out.

"This is important considering that in the future the challenge of eradicating corruption is getting bigger and Firli's presence there is believed to make it more difficult to take action and prevention by the KPK," said Kurnia.

Firli felt that this urge had to be carried out because ICW found at least five violations in various sectors committed by Firli during his time at the KPK. Starting from human rights violations, maladministration, and disobeying the President's orders when imposing TWK.

In addition, Firli has also committed ethical violations and alleged criminal acts of gratification in the issue of using luxury helicopters.

"The urge to resign is not without reason," concluded Kurnia.
