Bike Offenders Are Monitored By Electronic Ticketing Cameras

JAKARTA - Governor Regulation (Pergub) Number 128 of 2019 concerning the Provision of Bicycle Lanes has been officially enforced. With this rule, two- and four-wheeled riders are not allowed to go through the bicycle lane.

In this regulation, violators will be charged with Article 287 paragraph (1) concerning Violation of Road Signs or Markings in Law Number 22 of 2009. In addition, they will be subject to a maximum fine of Rp. 500 thousand or a maximum imprisonment of two months.

Even though the regulation has been enforced, in fact there are still two-wheeled and four-wheeled riders who violate it. Thus, the Provincial Government (Pemprov) involved the police for prosecution.

DKI Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan requested the involvement of the police to supervise motorists crossing the bicycle lane. However, it is not police officers who will go directly to the field, but will use the e-TLE system. So, with the supervision through this system, it is hoped that motorized vehicle riders will no longer use bicycle lanes.

"The e-TLE camera is there, so the violation will automatically include when there is a bicycle lane there," said Anies at Polda Metro Jaya, Thursday, December 5.

That way, he hopes the bike lanes will function properly. Moreover, the existing bicycle paths in Jakarta will be expanded. So, DKI Pemprov needs to collaborate with the police to carry out surveillance.

"We are pushing more bicycle lanes, and there must be slices and the rules for bicycle lanes can be enforced," said Anies.

For this reason, Anies asked the Police to think of a bicycle path as the scope of e-TLE. The goal is that traffic in Jakarta can get better.

"With regard to bicycle lanes, actually when talking about violations, all types of violations (must be dealt with)," he said.

Head of Public Relations of Polda Metro Jaya Kombes Yusri Yunus stated that Polda Metro Jaya would support the DKI Pemprov's proposal to enforce bicycle lane laws using e-TLE camera surveillance.

"It aims to reduce or suppress traffic violations. So surely we support it," he said.

"For motorbikes next year, but now the e-TLE cameras have highlighted bicycle paths. Currently, there are still cars (which are highlighted by e-TLE cameras)," added Yusri.
