Nadiem Says President Jokowi Ever Questioned Study Programs On Campuses Are The Same
DOC ANTARA/MENDIKBUDRISTEK NADIEM MAKARIM

JAKARTA - Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Mendikbudristek) Nadiem Makarim said President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) had asked about the same study program or study program at all universities. This is considered to be left behind by the changing needs of the industry.

"I remember what the President said, 'how come the study programs are the same again'. Even though the industry has changed, yes," said Nadiem in the Merdeka Campus Festival talk show broadcast on the Presidential Secretariat's YouTube, Tuesday, June 15.

On this question, Nadiem said, Kemendikbudristek is trying to fix higher education. This includes ensuring that the study programs on campus are in synergy with the industrial sector.

"We want our study programs to have mass marriage terminology. Married to industry, married to other campuses to create permutations of future study programs according to the direction of the President," said Nadiem.

He has implemented the Merdeka Campus program which is the product of a new policy in higher education. Through this program, Nadiem said students are encouraged to study outside the classroom.

This is done to liberate higher education from existing barriers such as between academia and industry as well as between research and learning.

"We want to create a university, a collaborative higher education system. That's the key word, gotong royong, collaborate without walls," he said.

In addition, through this program, students who study abroad can learn from other universities abroad and within the country, social projects in the community, teaching, entrepreneurship, as well as certified internships in industry and non-profit companies.

"We also want our lecturers to leave campus to gain experience, to nurture our students outside and seek work experience," he said.

"So this is something we have done. Of course, this is a very difficult challenge. However, this is the only way, Mr. President, so that our children at the time of graduation get the most important competencies in the world because the changes are getting faster," concluded Nadiem
