BOGOR - The Presidential Chief of Staff (KSP) General TNI (Ret.) Dudung Abdurachman asked bird lovers not to stop at hobbies and competitions. They are also encouraged to participate in protecting the habitat and environment where birds live.
Dudung conveyed this message when opening the National Level Singing Bird Competition and Exhibition of the Presidential Chief of Staff Cup at Raffles Hills, Cibubur, Bogor, Sunday, August 16.
According to Dudung, birds are part of the ecosystem. Their existence in nature is also related to environmental conditions.
"Don't let us only love the sound of birds, but don't care about the forests and environments where birds live," said Dudung.
He hopes that the bird lover community can develop into a social force that will also help maintain habitat sustainability.
"Caring for birds must be part of caring for nature," he said.
Dudung said that raising birds also requires patience, discipline, attention and responsibility. Birds will not produce the best chirping just because they are owned, but require good care and environment.
In the competition, Dudung asked the participants to maintain sportsmanship.
"Compete with enthusiasm, but still uphold sportsmanship. Accept victory with humility and accept defeat with an open mind," he said.
According to Dudung, activities such as bird races can also be a place for communities from various regions to meet and open community economic activities.
He appreciated the Daulat Aspirasi Rakyat or DAR and the Garuda Mahakarya Nusantara Foundation which initiated the event.
"Trophies and awards are symbols of achievement, but brotherhood and friendship are much more valuable values," said Dudung.
The national level cockfighting competition was held as part of the 81st anniversary of the Indonesian Independence Day.
