BANYUWANGI - As many as 25 residents in Wringinpitu Village, Tegaldlimo District, Banyuwangi, tested positive for COVID-19. The transmission of the residents of one village is suspected to be from a community celebration cluster.

Head of the Banyuwangi Health Office, Dr. Widji Lestariono, said that this cluster was discovered after one resident tested positive for COVID-19.

The resident is known to be present at a celebration. The local task force then expanded the search. As of June 14, there were 25 people who tested positive for COVID-19.

"So the first case finished attending a celebration, when tracing targeted his close contact, it turned out that the positive one was in the blasphemy," he said when contacted, Monday, June 14.

He said that of the 25 people, 5 of them have been declared cured. The remaining 2 people are undergoing treatment at the hospital and 18 people are self-isolating because they are asymptomatic.

"Those who are self-isolating without symptoms with close supervision of the village task force, so far no one has died," said Widji.

Widji said that in the past month there have been many celebrations in Banyuwangi. This activity has the potential for crowds and not wearing masks properly.

"This is evidence and it is true that the spread occurs when there is a crowd. When you open the mask, there is the potential for spread," he said.

Widji asked people who wanted to hold a celebration to report to the Sub-District Task Force. From there, the COVID-19 Task Force will conduct a simulation of the event related to health protocols.

"After getting the assessment report on whether the plan meets the prokes or not," he said.

As of June 14, 2021, a total of 6,636 Banyuwangi residents were confirmed positive for COVID-19. Of that number, 115 were treated, 5,835 recovered, and 686 died.
