Gift Without Postage: How Digital Gifts Work and Why They Are Used for Moments Without Goods

JAKARTA - Some moments don't have the goods to represent them. Anniversary for example: the date is only remembered by two people, and there is no special shelf in the store for "the day we fell in love". The same applies to apologies or confessions of feelings - moments that can't be scheduled far in advance and aren't available in the form of finished goods.

The gap is filled by the digital gift category: a personal web page sent via a link, not a product sent by courier.

Laubloom, a digital gift platform developed by PT Lau Cipta Estetika in Malang Regency, East Java, worked on the format. The sender chooses the moment, fills in the photo, music, and message through the browser, then sends a private link with a QR code to the recipient. There is no application that needs to be installed on both sides.

Different from the Digital Greeting Card

Unlike greeting cards, which are generally one static page, the gift page is opened gradually: there is an opening key, then the contents appear one by one, to the cover in the form of a digital bouquet. All of them are arranged via a browser without the need for design or programming skills.

"What makes a memorable gift is usually not the item, but the proof that someone pays attention to small details," said Muhammad Luqmanul Hakim, Founder of Laubloom.

No Postage, No Stock, No Time to Travel

On the operational side, this format eliminates three things that usually limit physical gifts: shipping costs, the risk of being damaged on the way, and travel time. The consequences are most felt in long-distance relationships, and at moments when the window is narrow - when gifts need to arrive at a certain hour, not just on a certain day.

Currently, Laubloom does not sell or send physical goods. The QR code that accompanies each gift is designed to be printed and slipped into a greeting card, bouquet, or gift box, so that the recipient opens both.

"We are not trying to replace physical gifts," said Luqmanul Hakim. "The bouquet and the card page can go together. The QR was made to be slipped in."

What Needs to Be Prepared

For those who have never done it, the materials needed are relatively simple: a few photos, a song, and a message to be conveyed. The work time ranges from ten minutes, and the results can be checked first before the link is sent.

Laubloom provides a selection of templates for birthdays, anniversaries, farewells, and appreciation for parents and teachers. The recipient simply opens the link in the mobile browser, without installing the application and without creating an account.

One thing to know before making: each gift page has an active period according to the selected package, and can be extended if you want to keep it longer. Therefore, Laubloom recommends that the recipient opens his or her card shortly after the link is sent.

What is sold in this category, according to Luqmanul Hakim, is actually not the goods but the experience of opening it. "If everything appears at once, it's just a page. What makes people keep it is the order, some are opened first, then the contents," he said.

Privacy as a Product Feature

The gift page is private: it can only be opened via a link or QR code, and is deliberately blocked from search engines so that it does not appear in search results. Laubloom states that it does not display the contents of its users' gifts without the permission of the owner.

"Gifts are the business of two people," said Luqmanul Hakim. "If the contents can be seen by others, the value is lost. So privacy is not an additional feature, it is a requirement of the product."

This category itself is still relatively new in Indonesia, and the habit of wearing it has not been formed as it is with physical gifts. Therefore, Laubloom does not use a comparison with physical gifts as a sales claim, but rather as an explanation of when the format is suitable and when it is not.

For moments that are clear and available - wedding gifts, for example, or gifts that you really want to wear every day - physical gifts are still the right choice. The page format is more useful when what is sent is memories or sentences, not objects.
